Explosion Protection
Briggs Equipment provides a wide range of ‘Pyroban protected' explosion proof solutions, for industries that process and /or store hazardous materials and have classified their areas as Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21 or 22 under DSEAR / ATEX*. We also provide added safety solutions for operations involving a lower risk.
As one of the most experienced explosion proof forklift and equipment providers in the UK, we supply the Ministry of Defence, UK refineries, several chemical manufacturers and most of the Scottish whisky industry with safe and reliable materials handling solutions. Personnel working in logistics, pharmaceutical, food and drink, paints, coatings, cosmetics, packaging, inks, energy, automotive, waste and a multitude of other manufacturing industries also rely on our equipment to keep them safe. We have worked with explosion protection experts Pyroban for more than 30 years and have one of the widest ranges of leading explosion proof Hyster forklift trucks, warehouse equipment, access platforms, scrubber driers, sideloaders and other plant on offer in the UK.
Pyroban conversions are ATEX 94/9/EC* compliant, refer to Harmonized European standard EN1755:2000+A1:2009 and are typically modified and tested at the Pyroban factory in Shoreham by Sea, Sussex. As a full line supplier, we also provide support for all other equipment in a fleet including fire engines, personnel carriers, shunting vehicles and standard forklifts. The explosion proof fleet is also supported by engineers fully trained on Pyroban equipment with annual safety audits (EX-ASA) to ensure continued explosion protection from point of delivery to point of replacement on request (advised). We provide full explosion proof fleet management services including data analysis, range of attachments and tyres, driver training, readily available short term hire explosion proof equipment and much more. Hazardous area classification services are also available through Pyroban Group.
Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21/22
Briggs provides a total solution for areas disignated as Zone 1, Zone 2 or Zone 21,22 operation where dust and powder (or a combination of gas and vapour) can constitute a hazard. Talk to us for further information.
Added safety for areas where there may be a low risk of explosion
Briggs Equipment can install Pyroban's Gascheka system onto any equipment operating in areas that are not formally classified, but where there may be some risk of explosion. It may also be suitable for equipment such as access platforms that are used for short periods in maintenance operations.
- Gascheka can be fitted in just a matter of hours onsite and can be interchanged across different equipment. It often forms part of a ‘work permit' specifically designed for refinery vehicles.
- The system provides audible and visual warning when it detects a gas or vapour (at 10% Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) propane in air) and at 25% LEL it shuts down the protected equipment automatically, minimising any risk of an explosion.
- The system auto-calibrates and self-tests the gas head at start up to ensure it is working correctly.
- Choose either infrared or pellistor gas sensing to suit the application. The traditional pellistor system detects more than 95% of hydrocarbons and is therefore the most versatile while Infrared technology is particularly suited to operations with specific hazards. For example, it suits distilleries, aerosol operations and the oil and gas sector.
