Thorough Examinations
Annual Thorough Examinations for your forklift trucks and other types of equipment can be arranged through our fully qualified national service team to help fulfill your heath and safety obligations. Thorough examination visits check the key components of your truck for wear and damage so that immediate safety issues can be highlighted and resolved.
What is a Thorough Examination?
In accordance with the specific requirements LOLER 1998 (Lift Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) forklift trucks and other types of lifting equipment must undergo an independent thorough examination at least once a year. The legislation states that fork lift truck users are personally responsible for the safety of the equipment used.
A Thorough Examination is like an MOT for a car that must be carried out and reported on separately from routine maintenance. A detailed inspection of all the safety related parts of a fork lift truck is undertaken. In addition to the brakes, steering, tyres etc being checked under PUWER 98 all the lifting components, hydraulics, chains, forks etc are inspected in accordance with LOLER 98.
The law states that all forklift trucks must undergo a Thorough Examination at least every 12 months, however, certain equipment such as equipment that lifts people, equipment with specialist attachments or equipment operating in harsh environments such as a cold store may require more frequent examinations. As your thorough examinations provider Briggs Equipment puts in place a schedule of visits suitable to your particular application.
Clear benefits
There are many advantages of the Thorough Examination particularly from the aspects of safety, efficiency and reduced cost. Faulty equipment can work less efficiently and cause accidents. If faults are not identified early they can also intensify damage to the lift truck which could cost you more in the long run in downtime and repairs.
