MoD’s Defence School of Transport gets a lift from Barloworld
30/7/2008
The MoD’s Defence School of Transport (DST) in Leconfield has recently improved its forklift training facilities and taken delivery of a series of brand new Hyster forklifts from Barloworld.
DST, based at the Normandy Barracks in Leconfield, East Yorkshire, is a Centre of Excellence for driver training for Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines personnel. The forklift training section of DST is run by 16 instructors who train roughly 350 counterbalance forklift drivers and 100 reach truck drivers each year.
To ensure students are trained on the very latest equipment, Barloworld, the MoD’s materials handling supplier, has recently delivered a series of Hyster Fortens H2.5FT diesel trucks and J2.00 ACX electric counterbalance trucks to the centre.
On completion of the course, qualifying drivers now also receive their forklift truck license in a Barloworld wallet, branded with the Tri-services insignia, and a copy of Barloworld’s Lift Truck Operator Safety Code booklet.
Barloworld Handling has a long standing working relationship with the MoD, and maintains over 4,000 units of equipment, known as the ‘Yellow Fleet’, across almost 600 MoD establishments, which include 18 overseas locations.
